Oscar Party Idea: “What’s Hot and Not!”

The Oscars inspire refinement and elegance and it’s all about Hollywood Glamor.  Here is our idea of a fun Oscar party, perfect for the newlyweds’ first soiree or just a night of fun with your closest friends  – “What’s Hot and Not” party, a spoof on red-carpet fashions.  Guests will compete for a prize for the hottest look as well as for the look least likely to be seen on the red-carpet.

For the main course, we suggest peppered pastrami and Gruyere cheese on rosemary focaccia – easily prepared ahead of time by layering the ingredients in a casserole dish and baking at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.   For dessert, it’s everyone’s favorite Celebrity Smores –  a crust of graham cracker crumbs, butter and sugar pressed into a casserole dish, covered with melted chocolate, peanut butter, strawberry preserves, another layer of graham cracker mixture and finally… melted marshmallow. 1 minute under the broiler gives the dish that wonderful roasted “smores” look.  Refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow all the ingredients to set, cut into bite sized pieces and enjoy the show.
