Come on! Let’s do some push-ups! No, this is not about my new year’s resolution to exercise more. These push-ups make fun DIY desserts. Stylist and entertainer, Courtney Dial Whitmore, is the brains behind Push-Up Pops. By creating desserts that can be put parfait style into push-pop containers, Courtney has introduced a whole new way of satisfying your sweet tooth. Not only are they unique, but they are easy, delicious and fun to assemble. Your guests will love them! They are great for a bridal shower brunch or as a surprise treat for your wedding guests who need a brief reprieve from dancing late into the night.
Courtney’s book Push-Up Pops includes recipes, tips and techniques for her refreshingly fun treats. Although the book is set to be released March 2012, there is a delicious sample recipe of Mocha Madness featured on Courtney’s website. Why not experiment and create your own personal recipe, in keeping with your wedding color scheme!
Don’t forget the containers! You can find links to Courtney’s favorite container retailers here. At approximately $0.50 a piece for the container, these treats are an affordable and innovative alternative to the traditional dessert bar.
The book, along with a set of push-up containers makes a wonderful bridal shower gift or a welcome hostess gift. Go ahead, share the fun.
Give this D.I.Y project a shot and let us know your favorite creations! I am thinking …..chocolate covered pretzel crumble with coffee ice cream, laced with bananas foster and sprinkled with roasted almonds.
Hot Fudge Sauce
3 (1-ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
1 cup sugar
1 small can evaporated milk
1/4 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 package Oreo cookies
1/3 cup butter, melted
1 pint coffee ice cream, softened
1 can chocolate hazelnut pirouette cookies
To make hot fudge sauce, mix the chocolate, sugar, and evaporated milk in a double boiler (or saucepan) and heat until melted and smooth. Stir in the butter and vanilla until blended and heated through.
Place 28 Oreo cookies in a ziplock bag. Seal bag and crush cookies using a rolling pin until they are in small pieces. Mix the cookie pieces with the melted butter.
To assemble push-up pops, layer 1 to 2 tablespoons of cookie pieces into the bottom of a push-up pop container. Add 1 tablespoon of coffee ice cream. Top that with 1 tablespoon of fudge sauce. Repeat layers until full. Freeze push-up pops until ready to serve.
